I’m carnivore approx 2 years. Has fixed so many problems! I recently had a flare up from either salami or some aged meat. Histamines causing a problem I think. I was also experimenting . Am so proud of you. The world is a different place on carnivore !

After 18 months of IF and EF without sustained weight loss, I'm finally giving ADF a real go. I feel great and hoping for lasting results. My joint pain is extremely reduced with ADF. I'm wondering if I need to try carnivore for a while. Since I'm losing again, I think I'll wait and see if I have a plateau. I love vegetables and I loved your podcast with Gin! Thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Lena,

I am so glad you are giving ADF a try. I really think it's what some people's bodies need!

And I'm so glad your joint pain is extremely reduced with ADF. You might benefit from trying carnivore for a while. But it wouldn't hurt to ease into that a bit later after your well adjusted to ADF. I didn't experiment with that until after I'd been doing ADF for 5 months. Please keep me posted on how you do with ADF. How long have you been doing it?

This is amazing. I almost fell off my chair when you mentioned it on the fasting podcast with Gin. I enjoyed reading your story. So important to share. Has made me reflect a lot on what is contributing to my own UTIs. Many thanks.

I love sharing this story because to me it demonstrates how important root causes in health are rather than focusing on one symptom. My IC and UTIs are just the symptom of high insulin and poor metabolic health. It's amazing how improving metabolic health changes everything!

Leslie can you comment a little bit more on your KetoMojo readings? I have had one for a couple of years - I am very motivated by numbers, etc. and love to see how I am in a moderate level of ketosis when I fast about 16 or more hours. I am interested in learning more about the glucose readings. How this can help me see if my insulin resistance is getting better? When I take a morning reading (about 12 hrs fasted) I typically see a glucose level of 87. When I am fasted about 15 hours - my glucose readings are down 10 points to about 73 on average. (GKI around 4.3 - 5.0). Can you tell me more about what I should be looking for? For example: "you should see a fasted glucose reading of 60 or so after 12 hrs" . Just not sure how this all correlates to becoming more insulin sensitive. Hope my question makes sense!

Hi Kristin,

Your glucose readings are perfect. Anything in the 70s or the 80s is ideal. With glucose, lower than 70s is not better. Your body keeps a tight rein on glucose and you really don't want it to fall too low.

As for ketones, I consider anything above 0.5 to be nutritional ketosis. However, it's ideal if you can get your ketones a tad higher, like around 1.0. If your blood glucose is 73 and your ketones are 1.0, then your GKI will be around 4.0 or so which is perfect. I think I have a different model of the KetoMojo. Mine does do GKI so I have to calculate that myself so I just pay attention to the ketone number and not the GKI. If you are having consistent ketones, then the fasting is doing what it's supposed to be doing. Are you seeing the weight loss you want? If so, keep doing what you're doing. If not, you might try a meal-less Monday or a little alternate day to shake things up for awhile.

Thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to know about my glucose. My meter does GKI for me - Typically I can achieve GKI numbers between 3-6 pretty easily with 16 hour fasts. I've had a few 1-3 high ketosis readings after 22 hr fasts. I've lost 30 lbs so far - 25 to go - this is where it gets tougher I know! I'm really trying to dip into 24 - 36 hour fasts. Definitely a "mental / boredom" thing for me. When I stay super busy and have lots to do I can blow right by hunger. It's the sitting at my desk for 8 hours at work that kill me. A quick walk around the block helps. Lately your brother has been officing with us which helps! Great mental stimulating conversations! :)
