My Story Part 2: A Resurrected Immune System Opened My Eyes
After learning about fasting, the next big health breakthrough came about after I learned about ancestral eating and then implemented the principles hard core. My immune system resurrected.
In this post:
Although fasting cured a number of ailments as outlined in last week’s post, I continued to have frequent and severe viruses.
Discovering Weston Price’s book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration was a turning point in my understanding of how nutrition shapes immunity.
After I implemented all of Weston Price’s ideas, I went from having a cold or flu monthly in the winter months to having the first winter of my entire life without a single virus.
My husband and kids still caught a couple of colds (I haven’t yet been able to get them to do all the health interventions I do—I’m working on them). But this was the first time that my family got viruses that I didn’t catch. I am still in awe.
The main health inventions I focused on were taking fermented cod liver oil plus butter oil daily (a natural food source of vitamins A, D, and K, the immune system’s most important vitamins), drinking raw goat milk daily, drinking homemade beef bone broth several times a week, eating beef liver weekly (also high in all vitamins and many minerals our modern diets are lacking), taking iodine and magnesium glycinate supplements, aiming to eat 4 pastured egg yolks per day, eating local pastured beef and pork, and occasionally pastured chicken when I can get it.
I also eat smoked oysters several times a week (super high in B12 and zinc), I often take non-fortified nutritional yeast for B vitamins (mix it in water and down it), natural vitamin C, and 10 grams of glycine powder mixed in a drink daily. (I detail the importance of the amino acid glycine in this post).
Weston Price’s book details how each of these foods is central to health and immunity. I did a lot of things. But my immune system was in a bad way.
I covered this part of my health journey in more detail in this post:
There are links at the beginning of that post to more about Weston Price and how to implement his nutritional principles.
Although I was floored to learn through that journey that the common cold does in fact have a cure, namely proper nutrition, the real lesson I learned was how to think about the human body from a different angle.
I now see the body as an organism whose default setting is wellness not sickness. I also learned that the simplest nutritional steps are often of more value than any pharma drugs, despite the fact that the pharma industry spends upwards of $83 BILLION per year on the R&D of new drugs. Yet humble little cod liver oil has never been improved upon.
Once I learned to think this way, I have never stopped answering this question: What other non-drug cures exist that we will never hear about unless we relentlessly search?
And that’s where I am today. I am on the hunt for natural cures, natural healing mechanisms, and old wisdom about healing this miraculous body. I find out so many new things each week that my list of drafts for posts just grows and grows.
Here’s just a taste of the simple healing mechanisms that an unimaginable corrupt medical system continues to conceal. These are the kinds of discoveries that keep me so excited about what I do:
1. Fibrocystic breast disease is well documented in the older medical literature to be healed by high doses of iodine. But I know people who visited doctors for their benign breast cysts and were never told to take iodine. I don’t know about you but I feel that it’s criminal that such information is kept from us.
Consider this quote from Biological Trace Element Research:
Clinically severe hyperplasia [unhealthy swelling] and fibrocystic disease is seen in the breasts of women who have low iodine levels. These precancerous lesions result in a high-risk state as well as persistent symptomatology in women. Iodine replacement therapy has been shown to be efficacious in reducing these conditions in clinical trials.
Do you know when this study quoted above was published? 1982. It appears little further research has been done in the last 42 years on this potential pre-breast cancer cure perhaps because there’s a boatload of cash to be made in treating breast cancer through $100k chemo drugs. And iodine is dirt cheap and unpatentable.
2. PCOS [polycystic ovarian syndrome] is well documented in the medical literature to be caused by high insulin levels and 100% curable through a low carb diet and fasting. Yet I know women who went to fertility clinics for PCOS for 20 years and spent big bucks but were never once told about diet despite there being hundreds of references in medical journals showing that high insulin from high carb diets causes PCOS. Like fibrocystic breast disease, PCOS can also be improved through iodine supplementation. For more on PCOS, see my post here.
3. Cancer has multiple off-patent cures that mainstream oncologists refuse to prescribe because these cheap cures don’t make money for themselves or the cancer industry. (Did you know that 70% of an oncologist’s income comes from the sale of chemo drugs? There was an open letter from an oncologist named Dr. Peter Eisenberg detailing how this works, but when I went to link to it just now, the info appears to have been taken down 🤔).
I read new success stories weekly (find my original cancer post here). Here is a miraculous success story about colon cancer, one about ivermectin, a collection of ivermectin success stories, an entire Substack devoted to collecting off-patent success stories, a here’s a free book dedicated to off-patent cures.
It’s important to note that the choice isn’t between believing your oncologist and believing random people on the Internet. The choice is between believing your local oncologist who likely has published zero papers, and believing honest whistle-blower oncologists like Dr. William Makis who has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Makis has come out fully in favor of alternative cures and is calling the bluff of his industry. He does a 20-minute video here reviewing all the medical studies proving ivermectin’s well-documented efficacy against nearly every kind of cancer. Dr. Makis is considerably more knowledgable than the average oncologist. I can never imagine trusting my small town oncologist who refuses to prescribe ivermectin to protect his personal profits over whistle blowers who stand to lose everything by telling the truth!
If I sound a little irritated right now, it’s because I don’t sit comfortably with the idea that some who people die from cancer could have been cured except that greedy oncologists refused to prescribe well-documented cures with next-to-no side effects because…money.
Anyway…[takes deep breath]…moving along to the next topic.
4. The type 2 diabetes success stories continue to roll in. I had one lady write me and tell me she came off her metformin after fasting for one week! (Here is a collection of diabetes success stories, my open letter to diabetics, and a story of how one doctor learned from his patient how to cure diabetes and then changed his whole practice.)
5. Kidney Disease: Did you know that kidney disease progression can be partially slowed by taking small amounts of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)? This is because your kidneys produce bicarbonates to keep your body from becoming too acidic, and supplying your body with bicarbonates relieves the kidneys from some of their workload. This does not cure kidney disease—to do that you have to address the underlying cause.
The most common cause of chronic kidney disease is T2 diabetes. But taking baking soda can slow the progression of the disease. To learn more, read this summary of research by Dr. Sircus. Also, see this study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephology titled Bicarbonate Supplementation Slows Progression of CKD and Improves Nutritional Status.
6. Aluminum: Did you know that you can eliminate aluminum from the body by drinking water high in dissolved silica such as Fiji water? I will be doing a post on this soon but if you want to begin researching this for yourself, start by reading Dr. Christopher Exley, a PhD, professor and researcher who’s spent his career studying aluminum in the body and how to detox from it. He has published over 200 peer-review papers. Aluminum in the body may be the root cause of many mysterious modern illnesses including Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, breast cancer, immune suppression, lowered sperm counts, some autism cases, and Parkinson's disease.
And those 6 examples are just scratching the surface of all that’s out there!
See how exciting my job is? I never run out of areas to research. Instead, the horizons expand daily.
So that is what this Substack is all about. It’s about finding out things that are our birthright to know.
We were made to thrive, and there are simple solutions to many health problems. These simple solutions often take a lot time to implement. You don’t feel better in 30 minutes like you do when you take ibuprofen. But after months of implementing changes, you may find you never need ibuprofen again.
Thank you the paid subscribers who make this work possible! I spend hundreds of hours hunting down the most reliable and helpful information I possibly can. Without my paid subscribers, I couldn’t keep pouring the enormous amount of time into research that I do. My hope is that the people who are in a financial position to support my work would do so to make more of it available for free to those who can’t afford to support me financially.
Don’t forget to check out the past research I’ve already done:
Blessings,
Leslie

I’m so glad you wrote about this ! I’ve heard about Westin Price for years and have never taken the time to read him. I think I will read it since he had such a profound effect on you. Lately, theres a naturopath talking about Vitamin A overload and how that is the cause of so many ills- so no cod liver oil, egg yolks, copper, vitamin D, ETC. I just don’t believe it and after hearing your story it is one more reason I don’t believe it for most people.
My FIL has Type 2 diabetes and is in the early stages of kidney failure. I hope I can pass some of this information along to him! I was skimming through the sodium bicarbonate supplementation summary. Would the best thing be to purchase the book or is there another straightforward resource on that topic? I’m the most “sciencey” person in my family and I am definitely in over my head reading most of the resources linked here. It is humbling to realize how much I don’t know!
