Wednesday, Sept 25 Office Hours

A recording from Leslie Dennis Taylor's live video, plus follow up notes and links

(I apologize that it takes about 20 seconds before I start talking. I wasn’t sure if it was working 😆)

The first ever Substack live is in the books. It was so fun seeing 22 of you joining in!

I’d like to figure out what days/times work best for people for future office hours, so here are a couple of polls to help me determine that.

Here are the notes I promised to link to while I was talking.

Adrenal cocktail to support the adrenal glands when fasting (does not break a fast). Mix with water:

(I really prefer whole-food vitamin C to lab-made ascorbic acid!)

The adrenal glands run on salt, potassium, and vitamin C.

Get bright sunlight in your eyes right when you wake, no glasses or contacts, outside not through a window or windshield, to give you a healthy cortisol rise in the morning, and make you sleepy 16 hours later. But don’t override the sleepy signal by having bright lights after dusk. Put computers and phones into warm night mode, wear bluelight-blocking glasses, have a pitch dark bedroom. You may consider a saliva cortisol test like this one. I can help you interpret it if you make an appointment.

Mr. Aluminum: I talked about some high level research about getting aluminum out of the brain. Here’s a Substack that gives a short overview of the research that drinking water with dissolved silica removes aluminum from the brain and other tissues.

The Salt Fix: before you buy and read the book, you can listen to this interview for the basics. You likely need much more salt. Low salt is hard on the kidneys and raises stress hormones. Some people like to plague the internet (and my inbox) by claiming that fasting/low carb stresses the body when it is simply low salt which causes a rise in stress hormones.

Here is the post on why stomach acid is good and PPIs such as Prilosec are so harmful: Stomach Acid Is Good For You: The many dangers of acid blocking medications by A Midwestern Doctor (AMD).

Migraines: check out this video from Dr. Ben Lynch on histamine intolerance. He explains when to use Histamine Digest, Histablock plus (now called Histamine Nutrients). For people with severe cases of histamine intolerance, I refer people to a practitioner whom I really respect, Jen Donovan, and she has a histamine class that’s only $17. She gives an overview of her class in this video.

Supplements I take and why:

We take a B complex like this one. Most of us don’t have the gut bacteria necessary to synthesize enough B vitamins. I’m always trying different brands, so I’m not married to that brand. Note: some people are sensitive to methylated B vitamins so pay attention to how you feel. If you’re an over-methylator and feel anxious on B vitamins, you likely need more glycine. I take glycine every day (I mix 2 tsp into a drink), not because I over-methylated but because it’s helpful for dozens of other reasons too (see this post on glycine). Could do a whole office hours on methylation, MTHFR, genetic variations, etc.

I take vitamin E to deal with PUFAs (poly unsaturated fatty acids, aka seed oils) which stay in your tissues for years after you stop eating them.

We take this cod liver oil with butter oil, gives a food form of A, D, & K. Raised my vitamin D from 24.4 to 69.2. Don’t take D alone. Read this post for rationale.

We take magnesium glycinate I don’t think brand matters as long as it’s glycinate.

I’m finding that B1 deficiency is common from our diet, and so I started my family on high-dose thiamine. We take this one. Take if you have any problems with your autonomic nervous system. For more info, refer to researcher Elliot Overton in this video. Who this applies to: any heart arrhythmia, or right blocked branch bundle, any problems with the autonomic nervous system which includes any problems with digestion, problems such as POTS, or Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a condition that causes an abnormally fast heart rate when standing up or sitting up. There is some evidence that it can help with Parkinson’s. I have a client who just started it so we’ll see.

Varicose veins: article on DMSO that mentions varicose veins.

Make sure to get the DMSO in a glass vial. Make sure that there are no chemicals, lotions, or soap on your skin because DMSO is a carrier that will carry anything into your body. Don’t use a cotton swab or a Q-tip to apply because any chemicals on the cotton will be carried into your skin.

Kidneys and baking soda research article.

Question about whether or not to take the flu vaccine. Again, I think AMD has the best info on that. Here’s her article: What are the Pros and Cons of Each Type of Vaccine?Knowing how vaccines work is necessary for understanding which ones are likely to help and which ones are likely to harm.

If I forgot to link to anything, shoot me an email and remind me. I doubtless forgot a few things despite taking notes.

Let me know if there was anything I talked about today that you’d like to hear more about in the future.
